France: Hollande To Sign Arms Deals With Egypt

French President Francois Hollande is set to sign military cooperation deals with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, including a 1 billion euros ($1.2 billion) contract to sell four Gowind warships to the Egyptian navy, Anadolu Agency reported Nov. 26. Al-Sisi will also meet with the French secretary of defense to discuss updating Egypt's force of French-built Mirage 2000 fighter jets. Humanitarian groups have criticized the deals because of al-Sisi's poor human rights record. France is currently facing political pressure from Europe and NATO to halt the sale of two Mistral amphibious assault ships to Russia.
